EXPERIENCE

Experience a Customized Visit

At our two traditional Japanese facilities, Terunoya and Eishin-an, we offer cultural activities related to Kaga Maki-e, featuring as well Ushikubi pongee silk and traditional sake, in hopes to introduce the rich traditional art and customs of Kanazawa city. Both facilities are opened only by reservation and each visit is customized. In addition, we independently provide information about and make arrangements for numerous traditional art and performances of Kanazawa city and its vicinity.

Terunoya

Terunoya: Situated in a highly refined old tea house section of Kanazawa city, the building was renovated for serving special guests. The three-story building has lattice work windows, traditional red walls and other features particular to the Kaga area. It is right by the side of the “feminine” Asano River, one of the city’s two symbolic rivers.

Eishin-an

Eishin-an: Situated on the property of an established family, it has been used as a retreat as well as a workshop for repairing the maki-e master pieces owned by the family. It stands on top of a hill where there lies before you a splendid view of Kanazawa city, the “masculine” Sai River, the other one of the city’s two symbolic rivers, and the traditional Japanese black roof tiles.

Kanazawa city

Kanazawa city: Located at the center of the main island facing the Sea of Japan, Kaga District was ruled by the magnificent Maeda Family during the era of the Edo government. Kanazawa city was the capital of this Kaga Clan where the ruler’s castle was erected. The simple yet highly refined samurai culture of Edo (present Tokyo) and the sophisticated royal culture of Kyoto blended here. The city retains the atmosphere of a castle town, and the people continue to carry on the sophisticated culture.
